The Philippine National Police (PNP) has rejected calls for a shoot-to-kill approach against Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, stressing that authorities must follow legal procedures in carrying out his arrest.
The police reiterated that their ongoing efforts to locate the senator are intended to enforce the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC), not to subject him to violence.
The clarification follows the circulation of social media posts claiming that Cagayan de Oro Representative Lordan Suan would push for a House hearing and a resolution calling for a shoot-to-kill order if Dela Rosa failed to surrender.
Suan has denied making such a statement, describing the circulating quote as fabricated and emphasizing his support for due process and the rule of law.
The PNP has repeatedly said it wants to avoid violent encounters and ensure the safety of everyone involved in the operation, including Dela Rosa and police personnel.
The senator has been the subject of an intensified manhunt following the expiration of the government’s October 30 deadline for his voluntary surrender. Authorities have also announced a P50-million reward for information that could lead to his arrest.
Dela Rosa is wanted in connection with the ICC investigation into alleged crimes against humanity arising from former president Rodrigo Duterte’s anti-drug campaign.
Despite the continuing search, his whereabouts remain unknown.
