Prosecution says it is focused on building an ‘airtight’ case, not counting Senate votes

PHILIPPINES – The House prosecution team says it is not counting votes in the Senate, insisting that its focus remains on building an “airtight” case against Vice President Sara Duterte.

The prosecution made the statement as the impeachment trial continues, amid discussions over whether there are enough votes in the Senate to convict or acquit the Vice President.

Rather than gauge the possible outcome, prosecutors said they are concentrating on presenting evidence and establishing the allegations raised in the impeachment complaint.

The prosecution has maintained that its strategy is to let the evidence speak for itself as the Senate, sitting as an impeachment court, weighs the case.

The trial continues with prosecutors presenting witnesses and evidence as they seek to substantiate the charges against Duterte.
