MANILA – The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) anticipates a surge in participation that could surpass Tuesday’s record of 15,500 attendees at the Iglesia ni Cristo rally.
By 6 a.m., police estimated around 5,000 people were already present.
A permit was granted by the Quezon City Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS) for a peaceful rally at the EDSA People Power Monument today from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., with MMDA coordinating traffic to keep EDSA moving smoothly.
Roughly 3,000 police personnel are deployed to maintain peace and order, said NCRPO spokesperson Police Major Hazel Asilo. Schools have shifted to online learning to accommodate the event.
Tuesday’s unannounced rally shut down major EDSA routes and paralyzed Metro Manila, affecting the morning commute. Traffic closures included service roads and flyovers around Ortigas and White Plains.
