OTTAWA, Canada – On June 20, 2026, the Philippine Independence Committee of the Ottawa Valley (PICOV), led by Chairperson Nora Arriola, led its annual Philippine Independence Gala. This is the 128th anniversary of Canada celebrating Philippine Independence Day and Filipino Heritage Month.
It usually features cultural performances, music, and traditions, followed by a dinner and gala entertainment. Further, this event seeks to bring the members of the Filipino-Canadian community closer, along with officers and members of the Philippine Embassy in Canada, led by Ambassador Jose Victor Chan-Gonzaga.
In his remarks, Chan-Gonzaga says that the Embassy will continue to be there for the community. He states that it will always be a “place where you are welcome, where your concerns are heard, and where our shared love for the Philippines can find expression.”
The mayor of Ottawa, Mark Sutcliffe, also attended the event, commending the Filipino community for their contributions to Canada.
