Twin earthquakes leave Venezuela in state of emergency

VENEZUELA – Twin earthquakes in Venezuela deal extreme damage in the capital of Caracas and surrounding areas on June 25, 2026. This left the country in a state of emergency.
The magnitude of the earthquakes are reportedly 7.2 and 7.5 respectively. The first earthquake’s initial reading of 7.1 was quickly increased to 7.2. According to the authorities, the former’s epicenter being along the Caribbean coast, and the latter’s 16 kilometers southwest of Morón.
The quakes were recorded to have occurred shortly after 6PM. Currently, citizens are encouraged to stay outdoors in case of aftershocks.
The damage the back-to-back earthquakes left behind is considerable, with collapsed infrastructure and toppled buildings. Some areas have also lost their electricity and cellphone signal. The country’s acting President, Delcy Rodriguez, announced in a television address that the country’s main international airport has been damaged and closed, along with the rest of the country’s metro and rail services.
