MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announces that a service contracting program for PUVs will be implemented nationwide by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) starting on April 15, 2026.
Under the program, PUV operators and drivers will be paid PHP 40 to PHP 100 each kilometer as added income, while commuters will receive a 20% fare discount on their travels.
“Simula April 15, may dagdag kita para sa drivers at hindi bababa sa 20% diskwento sa pamasahe para sa commuters sa ilalim ng Service Contracting Program,” Marcos said in his Thursday video message.
Marcos added that the government will implement a PHP 10/L fuel subsidy for PUVs, with a maximum of 150 liters every week, within three months.
“May ₱10 kada litro ring bawas sa krudo para sa PUVs, para hindi sumabay sa pagtaas ng langis ang pamasahe at presyo ng pagkain,” he said, noting that its implementation will start in the National Capital Region (NCR) next week.
