VICTORIA, British Columbia — Canadian authorities have recorded 9 fatalities and at least 27 injured individuals from a recent school shooting in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia on Tuesday, the worst one in decades.

The suspected gunman’s body, described as a “female in a dress with brown hair”, was also later recovered and was found to have sustained a self-inflicted injury, according to police reports.

The police initially found six people dead inside the Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, while the seventh victim was declared dead on arrival en route to a hospital. Two more remains were found at a house in the school’s vicinity, with authorities suspecting a connection to the shooting.

Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed his prayers and deepest condolences to the bereaved loved ones of the victims killed in the recent school shooting in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia.

“I join Canadians in grieving with those whose lives have been changed irreversibly today, and in gratitude for the courage and selflessness of the first responders who risked their lives to protect their fellow citizens,” the Prime Minister penned on a post.

“Our ability to come together in crisis is the best of our country — our empathy, our unity, and our compassion for each other. I have [also] connected with Premier (David) Eby to express my condolences, and with the Minister of Public Safety, Gary Anandasangaree, who is coordinating the federal response,” he added.

Carney assured the public that the federal officials are in close contact with their counterparts in the province of British Columbia to fully extend the Canadian government’s support to the affected community.
