GAC calls out new Israeli measures expanding West Bank illegal settlements

OTTAWA, Ontario — Global Affairs Canada (GAC) strongly condemned the Israeli government’s newly announced measures that illegally annex the occupied West Bank, thwarting a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine.

In a statement, GAC said these measures “contravene international law, undermine the prospects for peace, and erode the viability of a Palestinian State”, something Israel has vocally opposed and sought to eradicate.

“Canada firmly believes that a two-state solution – with Israelis and Palestinians living side-by-side – remains the only way forward for the long-term security of both peoples,” GAC stated.

Following the new Israeli measures, Canada joins the collective call of foreign ministers of Arab countries, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Türkiye in denouncing the “illegal annexation and displacement of the Palestinian people”.
