MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday expressed concern over his sister, Senator Imee Marcos, after she publicly accused him, First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos, and their son, Ilocos Norte Rep. Sandro Marcos, of illegal drug use.
In a press briefing in Malacañang, Marcos said her sister’s recent statements do not reflect the person their family knows and that her comments have alarmed relatives and close friends.
“For a while now, we’ve been very worried about my sister. When I say we, I’m talking about friends and family,” he said.
“The lady that you see talking on TV is not my sister. That view is shared by our cousins, our friends. Hindi siya ‘yan (That’s not her). That’s why we’re worried about her. I hope she feels better,” he added.
Marcos said he would not address the senator’s accusations in detail.
“It’s anathema to me to talk about family matters generally, in public. I do not like to, we do not like to, show our dirty linen in public,” he added.
Asked whether he intends to speak with her about the allegations, the President replied that they have long led separate lives.
“We don’t really… we no longer travel in the same circles, political or otherwise. So, no,” he said.
