Comelec drops debates, adopts panel interview format
MANILA – The last of the three-part “PiliPinas Debates 2022” of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) will now be an interview format.
The taped interviews, renamed “COMELEC-KBP Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas) Pilipinas Forum 2022”, are tentatively scheduled to air on May 2 to 6 with all candidates to undergo a one-hour panel interview, according to an advisory released Monday.
They can opt for a virtual or face-to-face interview.
The poll body said they are scratching the debate events because of conflict in the schedules of candidates.
Unpaid dues to Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila, venue of the first two parts, also prompted the canceled debates over the weekend.
Commissioner George Garcia said the guidelines will be released on Tuesday.
“Comelec has the final say, including editing. The panelist will be provided by KBP,” he said in a statement.

Yes it’s good that debate would change in to panel interview because i think panel interview would become more tough questions and much better rather than debates. If the panel interview becomes more meaningful it will be a big help to enlighten the people who really is more qualified to be the president of the philippines. Because debates are very common and sometimes the questions are more likely very easy and just repeated. So i hope this event would become successful and meaningful

I think you guys in the COMELEC have bigger problems that need to be resolved (vote security) and a bigger event (say, I don’t know, the May 9 elections!) that need to be looked after other than finding a platform where these candidates can speak; SMNI, ABS-CBN, GMA and other shows have already done that. Your energies, time, resources, by this time, should all be wrapped around the upcoming elections AND NOTHING ELSE!

I think, one of the best way to get to know one political candidate is thru a debate. In that way, they can sincerely introduce themselves and offer their platporms on what they really plan for a better Philippines. If they are ready to lead, they should not think twice in attending a debate. They should not be afraid but rather, be honest. In that case, many will believe on their vision and they could get the side of the people.
