MANILA — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Friday said five more Filipinos in the Asia Pacific and Europe have contracted the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), bringing the total cases to 9,878.

The DFA also reported two new recoveries with no new fatalities, with totals standing at 5,823 recoveries and 722 deaths.

Of the case count, some 3,333 are active cases – 345 are undergoing treatment in the Asia-Pacific region, 503 in Europe, 2,323 in the Middle East/Africa, and 162 in the Americas.

As the DFA monitors all Filipino patients abroad, it also continues its efforts to repatriate distressed nationals from various parts of the world.

Next week, more than 400 Filipinos from Lebanon will return via a chartered flight shouldered by the Philippine government.

They are leaving Lebanon on August 16 and are expected to arrive in Manila the next day.

More than 134,000 have so far been repatriated since the Covid-19 pandemic struck, 81,972 of whom are land-based while 52,206 are sea-based.
