MANILA – The conversion of the Philippine Sports Complex into a patient care center (PCC) has been completed and it will soon accept coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) positive, mild, and asymptomatic cases.

Works to convert the facility, which can accommodate at least 132 patients, were finished within five days. The government has so far established four of these PCCs in Metro Manila.

National Task Force (NTF) spokesperson Restituto Padilla underscored the importance of establishing such quarantine areas during the task force’s inspection of the facility on Tuesday.

“Importante ang buhay ng bawat Pilipino kaya gumagawa tayo ng ganitong klaseng hakbang (The life of each Filipino is important. That is why we are doing these measures),” Padilla said, according to a news release.

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto thanked the national government for repurposing the sports complex.

“We’re very thankful, on behalf of the local government of Pasig City. I want to thank everyone who made this possible,” Sotto said. “This is a good initiative of the national government. We can see that every agency and office (is) working together. The local government of Pasig will continue to cooperate and provide support so that operations in this quarantine will be smooth.”

Meanwhile, Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) president and chief executive officer Vince Dizon said the facilities are “part of the strategy of the government to ‘locate, isolate, and cure’ (Covid-19 patients).”

Joining Padilla and Dizon during the inspection were Department of Health Director Leonita Gorgolon and Department of Public Works and Highways officer John Pulido. (PR)
