Angara bares legislative plans for senior citizens, PWDs

MANILA – Reelected Senator Sonny Angara on Wednesday vowed to push for vital measures that would improve the lives of members of vulnerable sectors, such as senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs).

In a statement, Angara said he will prioritize bills seeking to double the pension for the elderly, create a national commission for seniors, increase the wages for teachers, and provide better opportunities for PWDs.

Angara also proposed a new “Made in the Philippines” campaign that aims to enhance the country’s services and manufacturing sectors, thus creating more job opportunities for Filipinos.

Angara thanked his supporters for allowing him to serve another term as senator, and offered his victory to his late father, former Senate president Edgardo Angara.

“The victory is as much the result of the long hours and hard work we and our supporters poured into the campaign, as it is an affirmation that the Filipino people want to continue the present momentum for reform towards building a government that actively cares for every member of the Filipino family,” he said.

“Sa aking pagbalik sa Senado, ipagpapatuloy ko ang kanyang legasiya at muling isusulong namin ang mga repormang patungkol sa edukasyon, kalusugan, social benefits at trabaho ng bawat miyembro ng pamilyang Pilipino (With my return to the Senate, I will continue my father’s legacy and push for reforms on education, health, social benefits, and employment for every Filipino),” Angara said.

He also expressed gratitude to President Rodrigo Duterte and Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte for their endorsement.

Angara ranked sixth in the senatorial race with 18,161,862 votes,  based on the final and official results from the Commission on Elections.
