The opposition Senator Leila De Lima on Wednesday called President Rodrigo Duterte’s improved Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey satisfaction rating as “intriguing and thought-provoking” after the survey released that the President’s satisfaction rating in the 4th quarter of 2017 rose to 10 points.

“To be completely honest, I cannot fathom the reasons why the ultra rich – which I presume accounts for perhaps the best educated and informed members of society – would find satisfaction in what is happening in our country lately,” De Lima said in a statement.

According to the latest survey, the Filipinos were more satisfied to Duterte’s performance as the President of the Republic of the Philippines with a “very good” net satisfaction rating of +58 which is 10 points higher than the 3rd quarter with +48 or “good” rating.

The rating showed that 71% of Filipinos among the A & B social classes are satisfied, 13% are dissatisfied, and 15% are so far undecided with the President’s performance.

De Lima, who is a vocal critic of Duterte, pointed out that the interests of those in A & B social classes are different from those who are “less fortunate”.

“Perhaps they are satisfied with what’s going on because they are not adversely affected by the stuff that is happening to our less fortunate brothers and sisters,” De Lima said.

The Senator once again lambasted the President’s type of leadership as “a creeping martial and authoritarian rule.”

In her statement, De Lima enumerated several problems that the country are now facing under the current administration such as the rampant corruption, traffic, peace and order situation, strange and disturbing pivot to a foreign power, and a leader who is intolerant to criticisms.

“Why would the ABs stand for these?” De Lima asked.

“People were made to think that the past administration is evil because it was composed of rich, educated elites, so they chose a leader who they thought mirrored their identity. Hindi nila alam na balat-kayo lamang ang pagiging maka-masa ng administrasyong ito [They didn’t know that the (Duterte) administration is just pretending to be a pro-masses administration],” De lima added.
