MANILA — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Wednesday assured preparations for the May 2018 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections are on time.

“We’ve actually started preparing for barangay last year…We just continue our preparations… But there’s already a template how we should do things and we are still on time,” Comelec Commissioner Luie Guia said.

With this, the poll body official said that they would be coming out with the Calendar of Activities for the village and youth polls.

Last year, the poll body has conducted two voter registrations as part of its preparations for the May 2018 polls.

For the first round of voter registration, it has enlisted over 1.4 million new regular voters and over 233,000 youth voters.

From November 6 to 30, 2017, the Comelec has received a total of 843,588 voter applications.

It also printed more than 70 million official ballots for the polls.
