MANILA — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is conducting inspection on the compliance with occupational safety and health standards (OSHS) of companies involved in the production of pyrotechnics and firecrackers all over the country.

According to Usec. Joel Maglunsod, DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III signed on Monday Labor Advisory No. 17, ordering all regional directors to monitor the establishments’ compliance with the OSHS to prevent accidents.

“The latest is we came up with a Labor Advisory to all regional offices to closely monitor the manufacturer of firecrackers or pyrotechnics in case problems occurred, immediately there will be interventions, assessment and inspections,” he said.

So far, the department has not received any reports of OSHS violations.

The order states that “relative to the increase in the manufacture of pyrotechnics and firecrackers nationwide due to the Christmas and New Year’s Celebrations, all Regional Directors are hereby directed to monitor the establishments’ compliance with OSHS to avoid any accident in the workplace.”

“Further, should there be deficiency in OSHS, the Inspectors shall assist them to correct the same. However, if there is refusal to comply with OSHS, the Inspector is hereby directed to conduct OSHS Investigation pursuant to Department Order 183, Series of 2017,” it furthered.

The regional offices are ordered to submit the list of establishments monitored and given assistance on Dec. 29 to the Bureau of Working Conditions.
