MANILA –To ensure a peaceful and orderly commemoration of the All Saints’ and All Souls ‘days next week, the Southern Police District (SPD) will deploy more than 1,300 policemen in the southern part of Metro Manila.

SPD head Chief Superintendent Tomas Apolinario Jr. said that 1,312 police from SPD and additional 130 others from the Regional Public and Safety Battalion (RPSB) in National Capital Region Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) will be deployed and to be backed up by 5,798 “force multipliers” such as Bantay Bayan, Barangay Tanods, Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams, security guards and NGO members.

Apolinario said a total of 7,686 personnel will provide public safety services in 29 public and private cemeteries, 13 bus terminal, four airports, 20 mall and commercial centers and some segments of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) and other convergence located within the southern metropolis area of jurisdiction.

The SPD covers the cities of Makati, Pasay, Taguig, Parañaque, Las Piñas and Muntinlupa as well as the municipality of Pateros.

The District Director also ordered all chiefs of police of the seven Police Stations under SPD to intensify and increase their police visibility, round-the-clock foot and mobile patrols on the streets to deter criminals from conducting their illegal activities.

He said that personnel from the district headquarters will be deployed effective Oct. 31 to Nov. 2, 2017 as patroller to augment security deployment of the police stations together with the admin personnel of the police stations.

However, some cemeteries may already have their skeletal deployment on Oct. 28, 2017 to provide police assistance considering that there were some who preferred to pay respect and/or visit their relatives and loved ones earlier.

The SPD chief also urged the public to take advantage of days before All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days to spruce up the tombs of their dearly departed.

He is also reminding all those who are leaving for the provinces to lock their houses properly and to check every door and window to avoid possible intruders when they leave and also to check and unplug their appliances, gas stoves to ensure that there will be no cause of fire incident.

Apolinario said that for motorists traveling to the provinces, they should check if their vehicles are in good running condition to avoid any hassle.

“If you are to convey on public utility vehicles, refrain from using/displaying expensive pieces of jewelry. If it is not necessary, do not bring a huge amount of money. Bring things that are only necessary,” Apolinario added.
