Duterte’s high scores reflect true public sentiment — Rep. Nograles

MANILA  — A leader at the House of Representatives believes that the latest Pulse Asia survey showing high approval and trust ratings is “undeniable proof that the public continues to hold President Rodrigo Duterte in high regard.”

Duterte retained his “big majority” approval and trust ratings, both at 80 percent, according to a Pulse Asia survey conducted from September 24 to 30.

“The 80 percent score in both trust and approval ratings for President Rody Duterte in the latest Pulse Asia survey is no doubt the true sentiment of the general public,” said House Appropriations Committee Chairman Karlo Nograles in a statement on Friday.

“It is another testament of how much the President is loved by a great majority of the people. The huge numbers he got in the survey are clearly an affirmation of our country’s admiration of our leader,” he added.

Nograles added that Duterte’s ratings have been “consistently high” across all regions and classes since June.

The Davao City lawmaker said the President still maintained his high ratings amid the alleged destabilization plot against the administration.

Nograles was referring to issues such as Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte’s alleged links to the Bureau of Customs’ illegal drug smuggling activities, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s claims of ill-gotten wealth on the part of the President, and the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines’ (CBCP) criticisms of the Philippine leader.

“As the very high marks of President Duterte reflect the real pulse of the people on the ground, I hope this will discourage destabilizers from pursuing attempts to discredit the administration,” Nograles said.

“The people’s response is loud and clear: they continue to back Tatay Digong despite political efforts to destroy and discredit him,” he added.

Nograles expressed hope that the President’s high approval ratings would “keep the political stability that we enjoy, and lead us to greater heights as a nation.”

“I never doubted the enormous and undying support that Filipinos continue to give to President Duterte. They know that the President is sincere in solving the country’s problems. They know that President Duterte is the leader we need in these very challenging times,” he said.

Nograles noted that the President will make good on his promises and perform his job to the fullest.

“Rest assured that our President will repay this support by fulfilling his promises, foremost of which are defeating the drug menace and ushering in a period of prosperity in the country via federalism,” he said.
