Public urged not to litter during ‘Undas’

ILOILO CITY – As early as now, the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) is advising the public to be mindful of their garbage when they visit cemeteries to visit the graves of their loved ones.

“We appeal to the public for cleanliness,” Engr. Noel Hechanova stated on Tuesday.

A task force will be created to look into the implementation of ordinances such as the city government’s anti-littering ordinance. They will be visiting public cemeteries two weeks before the November 1st or on All Saints’ Day (“Undas”) to conduct cleanup drive.

Another cleanup will be undertaken after the “Undas” as CENRO expect piles of garbage such as flowers and candles to be left behind.

The city government manages public cemeteries in Tanza, City Proper; Quintin Salas, Jaro and Lapaz.

Meantime, Hechanova said that this year’s preparation is “special” because they take it an opportunity to inform family members of those who are buried at the Tanza cemetery of the plan to have it rehabilitated.

“Tanza is very congested,” he said.

Once the rehabilitation of Tanza is completed then they may move to other cemeteries.

Meanwhile, Jeck Conlu, head of the Public Safety and Transportation Management Office said that they are “all set” for the Undas.

A coordination meeting with the special services unit (SSU), business process licensing office (BPLO) , transportation management and traffic regulation office (TMTRO), auxiliary police, task force Asis and vendors has already been done.

This week, the city government will release special permit for flower and candle vendors while on October 25 or 26 they will be provided areas where they can sell their goods.

Selling of items will be from October 28 to November 1, Conlu said.
