BACOLOD CITY – The Department of the Interior Local Government (DILG) in Western Visayas is set to submit a consolidated report on the abolished Negros Island Region (NIR) on the first week of November.

DILG-6 Regional Director Anthony Nuyda said the regional directors have been instructed to submit accomplishment and transition reports after the NIR was officially dissolved on October 9.

“We asked them to submit the highlights of their accomplishments under NIR as we will come up with a consolidated report,” Nuyda said.

The NIR regional offices ceased operations on Monday,  the end of the 60-day transition period provided in Executive Order 38 abolishing the region signed by President Rodrigo Duterte on August 7.

Nuyda said that all concerns, including the displacement of  job order personnel  and conversion of regional offices to satellite offices, were addressed before the agencies shut down operations.

He added that the regional directors were also instructed to inform the public and the local government units on where to transact after the NIR ended its run.

EO No. 38 revoked the creation of NIR on May 29, 2015 for lack of funds.

“The establishment of regional offices of departments and agencies in the NIR requires substantial appropriation to be fully operational, thus competing with government priority programs and projects for funding,” the EO stated.

With the abolition of NIR, Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental were  reverted  to Western Visayas and Central Visayas, respectively.

The special bodies formed  under the NIR, including the Regional Development Council, Regional Peace and Order Council, Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, were also merged with those in the two regions.
