CEBU CITY — The random drug testing for public school teachers and non-teaching personnel continued Tuesday at the Alaska-Mambaling Elementary School here.

About 70 teachers and five non-teaching staff, including a security guard and two carpenters, of the said school voluntarily submitted themselves to the test conducted by the Cebu City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (Cosap).

The Department of Education (DepEd) and Cosap started the drug testing of public school workers on Monday at the Regino Mercado Elementary and Night High School with 58 teachers and five non-teaching personnel.

Results of Monday’s tests were not yet available, but Cosap chief Garry Lao said they will submit the results to the DepEd together with Tuesday’s results within this week.

Lao said they will conduct the surprise drug tests daily considering that there are 126 schools under the Cebu City Schools Division of the DepEd, which mandated the drug testing under Order No. 37 or the DepEd Drug-Free Working Policy.

Cebu City Schools Division superintendent Dr. Bianito Dagatan said teachers have nothing to fear as they will be given due process if they should be found positive for drug use. (USJR intern Levirose Caballero/PNA)
