‘Maring’ affects 2,103 families in NCR, CALABARZON

MANILA — An initial 2,103 families or 8,793 persons living in 109 barangays in the National Capital Region and CALABARZON were affected by the inclement weather brought about by the onslaught of tropical depression ‘Maring’ Tuesday.

This was disclosed by National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) executive director Ricardo Jalad in the agency’s 8 a.m. update Wednesday.

Of the above-mentioned figure, 1,857 families or 7,549 individuals are being sheltered in 116 evacuation centers. While 96 families or 389 families are being served outside evacuation centers.

The NDRRMC chief said three persons were confirmed killed in landslides caused by ‘Maring’ and these can be broken down into two in Taytay, Rizal and one in Lucena, Quezon.

Jalad also reported that five persons were reported missing due to heavy flooding in Barangay Sto. Cristobal, Calamba City, Laguna.

Initially, 13 were reported missing after their homes were swept away by floods but verification later revealed that eight of these individuals were immediately rescued.

Also, the NDRRMC chief reported that nine houses, six partially and three totally damaged, in Silang, Cavite.

The NDRRMC is still on “blue alert” status for any contingencies that might be brought by adverse weather conditions.(PNA)
