Pimentel welcomes positive Senate performance rating
MANILA–With 65 percent of Filipinos satisfied with the performance of the Senate, Senate Pres. Aquilino Pimentel III on Monday welcomed this survey result noting that the institution is going in the right direction.
“Our positive numbers are encouraging, and can be viewed as an indicator that our people are pleased with the direction of the Senate and the work it is doing,” Pimentel said referring to the recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey.
The survey, which was conducted from March 25 to 28, showed the Senate had the highest satisfaction rating among four institutions surveyed by SWS, including the House of Representatives, the Cabinet of Pres. Rodrigo Duterte and the Supreme Court.
It also showed that only 13 percent were dissatisfied with the Senate, while 21 percent said they were undecided.
This rating obtained by the Senate in March 2017 is six percentage points higher than what it obtained during the same period in 2016, and nine percentage points higher than what its satisfaction ratings were in 2015.
Next to the Senate, the Supreme Court acquired the second highest satisfaction ratings of 56 percent; followed by the House of Representatives with 53 percent; and the Cabinet, with 50 percent.
Pimentel said that it was the members of the Senate, its officials,
and its employees that “deserve much of the credit for the positive results of the survey.”
He also acknowledged that there is also room for improvement and that the Senate should not be content with its current satisfaction rating results.
“…The Senate should always strive to do more because ultimately it is our people who benefit when we in the Senate do our job, and do it well,” he added.
