60 erring MMDA personnel to assist in estero, sewerage cleanup
MANILA–Sixty personnel of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) facing administrative charges will temporarily help in the estero and waterways cleanup and sewerage declogging as part of their preventive suspension.
MMDA Officer-in-Charge Thomas Orbos said personnel with cases ranging from simple negligence to extortion will be deployed to the Flood Control and Sewerage Management Office to assist in the agency’s flood mitigation program Estero Blitz.
The reassignment of erring MMDA personnel will prevent them from influencing complainants while their cases are being heard by the legal department. The MMDA official assured those accused of corruption on a permanent status will be provided due process before being dismissed from service.
“They will be working on a more productive activity while their cases are being heard,” Orbos said in a statement.
The MMDA is also considering sending enforcers with pending cases to the Army Reserve Command in Tanza, Cavite for military training. “Maybe undergoing military training would help instill values and discipline to these erring personnel,” according to Orbos.
