VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Filipino-Canadian youth and student organization Sulong UBC will hold its sixth general assembly on Monday, November 9, bringing together members and community supporters to review its activities, elect new leaders and set priorities for the coming year.

The gathering will take place from noon to 4 p.m. at the University of British Columbia’s West Mall Annex, Room 110.

According to the organization’s announcement, the assembly will focus on evaluating its work over the past year, recognizing achievements and developing a new General Plan of Action to guide future activities.

Members will also elect a new Executive Committee responsible for leading the organization.

While the event is open to members, allies and individuals interested in Sulong’s work, voting in the leadership elections will be limited to registered members.

Supporting Filipino youth in Vancouver

Established in 2018, Sulong UBC is a Filipino-Canadian youth and student organization affiliated with Anakbayan Canada.

The group organizes primarily at UBC but also welcomes young people and students from across Vancouver.

According to its official website, Sulong focuses on issues affecting Filipino migrants, students and young people, connecting their experiences in Canada with social and political developments in the Philippines.

The organization has participated in campus initiatives addressing food insecurity, including efforts to restore access to the UBC student union’s food bank for university staff.

It has also worked with other student and community organizations on activities supporting food security and community engagement.

The upcoming assembly will provide an opportunity for members to assess these efforts and discuss the organization’s direction.

Registration open to members and supporters

Sulong is encouraging attendees to register in advance so organizers can prepare for the expected turnout and arrange food.

The event will also include an opportunity for participants to meet other members and supporters.

Those interested in attending can register through the organization’s general assembly RSVP form.
