MANILA, Philippines — Private vehicles will be temporarily allowed to use a southbound section of the EDSA Busway starting Monday, November 2, as the government carries out road resurfacing under the second phase of the EDSA Rehabilitation Project.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said the temporary arrangement covers the stretch from Nepa Q Mart in Quezon City to Boni Avenue in Mandaluyong City, with roadworks expected to take approximately two weeks.
The measure aims to ease traffic congestion while rehabilitation crews repair affected portions of EDSA.
Dizon said private motorists may use the designated busway section while construction is underway and traffic barriers remain in place.
“Mula Nepa Q Mart hanggang sa may Boni, makakadaan ang mga pribadong sasakyan sa Busway. Hanggang sa panahon na maibabalik natin sa normal matapos na tayo dito,” Dizon said.
He explained that the arrangement would help prevent additional traffic disruptions as workers complete the road resurfacing.
The busway is normally reserved for authorized public utility buses and certain emergency and government vehicles. The temporary opening does not extend permission to private motorists along the entire corridor.
Road rehabilitation continues along EDSA
The adjustment comes as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) continues repairs along EDSA’s southbound lanes.
Under the latest phase of the project, rehabilitation activities cover sections near the Kamuning Flyover, Nepa Q Mart, Shaw Boulevard, Boni Avenue and Guadalupe.
The DPWH previously scheduled pavement repairs from October 30 to November 2, involving the removal of damaged concrete, installation of reinforcing materials, concrete pouring and finishing work.
Affected lanes were temporarily closed during construction, while other lanes remained accessible to motorists.
The latest traffic arrangement will accommodate vehicles while additional resurfacing work continues along the affected section.
Normal busway restrictions to return
Dizon said the temporary arrangement is expected to last about two weeks, after which normal traffic restrictions will be restored once the roadworks are completed.
The EDSA Busway operates as a dedicated corridor intended to provide faster and more reliable bus services along Metro Manila’s busiest highway.
Officials have generally prohibited unauthorized private vehicles from entering the corridor to prevent delays to public transport operations.
For the duration of the rehabilitation, motorists are advised to follow traffic signs, barriers and instructions from traffic personnel when approaching the affected southbound section.
The temporary access is limited to the designated portion of the busway and should not be interpreted as a permanent change to its operating rules.
