MANILA — Around eight million people have been affected by the combined effects of the southwest monsoon and three recent tropical cyclones, according to the country’s disaster response authorities.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and Office of Civil Defense said the affected population was equivalent to approximately 2.3 million families across 10 regions.
The report covered the effects of the habagat and tropical cyclones Luis, Maymay and Neneng.
At least 32 deaths were reported, while 19 people were injured. Three others remained missing—one each in Quezon City, Manila and Batangas. Reported casualties remain subject to validation by authorities.
Around 25,800 people were still staying in 297 evacuation centers as of the latest assessment.
Infrastructure damage reached an estimated ₱6.11 billion, while losses in agriculture stood at ₱2.32 billion. Combined damage to the two sectors amounted to about ₱8.43 billion.
Nearly 3,000 houses were damaged, including 349 that were completely destroyed.
The government has released approximately ₱1.65 billion in assistance to affected families and communities. Meanwhile, 117 local government units have declared a state of calamity.
The habagat strengthened again due to a low-pressure area, bringing renewed heavy rains and widespread flooding to parts of Luzon and the Visayas.
Authorities urged residents in flood- and landslide-prone communities to remain alert and monitor evacuation instructions and official weather advisories.
