PHILIPPINES – Malacañang urged Filipinos and public officials to remain vigilant against possible foreign influence, particularly in discussions involving the West Philippine Sea.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro made the call following Defense Secretary Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro Jr.’s allegation that some Filipino politicians may be receiving support from China to promote narratives that undermine the Philippines’ position in the West Philippine Sea.

Castro, however, said allegations involving specific politicians should first undergo a thorough investigation before their identities are made public.

“Kung particular na politician kung mayroon man ay hindi naman agad-agad ito dapat na maisiwalat at kailangan pa nang masinsinang pagpapaimbestiga,” Castro said.

She also raised concerns over previously reported Chinese-linked social media networks allegedly spreading anti-Philippine and pro-Duterte content.

Castro stressed that political differences should not come at the expense of the country’s national interests, particularly on issues involving Philippine territory and maritime rights.

“Hindi po dapat na magpagamit sa ibang bansa para lang manatili sa puwesto,” she said.

She warned that allowing foreign interests to influence Filipino political leaders could affect the narratives and policies they promote.

“Mahirap po na ang maging lider natin ay hawak ng ibang bansa dahil ibang naratibo at ibang interes ang palalawigin ng mga politiko na hawak ng ibang bansa,” Castro added.

The Palace said the government will continue to protect Philippine interests amid ongoing tensions over competing claims in the South China Sea.
