Marcos confident PH can manufacture its own electric vehicles

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. expressed confidence that the Philippines has the capability to manufacture its own electric vehicles as the government pushes to strengthen the local automotive manufacturing industry.

Marcos made the statement after inspecting an automotive parts manufacturing facility in Caloocan City, where he assessed the country’s capacity to produce locally made electric vehicles.

The President said the government wants to support local manufacturers and identify measures that could help companies expand production and improve their capabilities.

He added that the administration is particularly aiming to develop a Filipino-made electric vehicle as part of efforts to boost domestic manufacturing and reduce dependence on imported automotive products.

The Department of Science and Technology, meanwhile, committed to provide technological support that could help improve product quality and accelerate production.

The initiative forms part of the government’s broader push to strengthen local industries and expand the country’s participation in the growing electric vehicle sector.
