MANILA, Philippines — Landbank and Overseas Filipino Bank have opened 211,000 new accounts using National ID verification since launching the service in July.
The system allows clients to open accounts through the banks’ mobile apps or online onboarding platforms without presenting or uploading a physical government-issued ID.
Instead, customers can verify their identity in real time through the Philippine Statistics Authority’s National ID system.
Landbank President and CEO Lynette Ortiz said the service is aimed at making banking more accessible and expanding financial inclusion.
OFBank President and CEO Leila Martin said the feature is especially useful for overseas Filipinos and their families because it makes account opening faster and easier regardless of location.
Landbank, OFBank, the Department of Information and Communications Technology, and the PSA formalized the use of the National ID Authentication Services on August 14.
The system will serve as the primary identity verification method across the banks’ digital onboarding platforms.
