CANADA – Following the new Canada-Philippines Strategic Partnership, which is expected to bring about immense benefits for both countries, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anita Anand, shares her happiness in a recent post on social media.
In her latest statement, she says, “The new Canada-Philippines Strategic Partnership will help open new markets, strengthen cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, and create more opportunities for workers, businesses, and communities in both countries. As a key partner in promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific, we also reaffirmed our commitment to regional and maritime security. This is how Canada builds stronger partnerships abroad, while creating more opportunity at home.”
The new partnership means to expand cooperation in tourism efforts, cultural exchange, and make more markets accessible to both countries through a new Canada-Philippines Tourism Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). According to Canada’s Prime Minister, Mark Carney, this is expected to triple bilateral trade by 2035 and to increase export opportunities in agriculture and forest products.
Along with these recent developments, the two countries also signed the Joint Declaration of Intent between the Department of Migrant Workers of the Republic of the Philippines and the Department of Citizenship and Immigration of Canada concerning labor and migration cooperation on July 2, 2026, in Vancouver. This agreement is to protect the rights of migrant workers while securing a high but fair labor mobility for the parties involved.
