CANADA – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. arrived on Canadian soil on July 2, 2026. He carries with him the intention of beginning a new chapter between the Philippines and Canada through a bilateral Free Trade Agreement. With this, he states that he means to expand trade, strengthen their cooperation in defense, provide more opportunities for Filipino workers, and connect through tourism and culture.
To that end, he met with Prime Minister Mark Carney in order to elevate their ties to a strategic partnership.
In a post on social media, Marcos Jr. announces that he is pleased that he is able to join the Prime Minister at Jollibee in Vancouver. “[Jollibee is] where generations of Filipinos have found not only a taste of home but also a reminder that, wherever we are in the world, our communities continue to thrive, contribute and make us proud,” he says. “As we strengthen our partnership with Canada, we also celebrate the Filipino spirit that has helped bring our two countries even closer together.”
