Bicol wage board OKs pay hike for workers, ‘kasambahay’

MANILA – The National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) on Monday announced a PHP45 increase in the daily pay of minimum wage earners and a PHP1,000 monthly salary hike of domestic workers (kasambahay) in the Bicol Region (Region 5).
In a social media post, the NWPC said the Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board (RTWPB) Region 5 approved Wage Order No. V-23 stating that the PHP45 daily wage hike will be given in two tranches.
The first tranche, amounting to PHP20 will be given on April 8 while the last tranche, amounting to PHP25, will take effect on Dec. 1 this year.
Upon the full effectivity of the wage hike, the minimum wage in the region will be PHP480. The current wage in the region is PHP435.
The workers that will be covered by the increase are in the following cities: Iriga, Lagazpi, Ligao, Masbate, Naga, Sorsogon and Tabaco; and the provinces of Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Masbate and Sorsogon.
On the other hand, the minimum wage rate for kasambahay will be at PHP6,000, after a PHP1,000 monthly pay hike starting April 5, after the wage board approved Wage Order No. RBV-DW-04.
Covered by the wage hike are the cities of Iriga, Lagazpi, Ligao, Masbate, Naga, Sorsogon and Tabaco; and the provinces of Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Masbate and Sorsogon.
