MANILA, Philippines — Surigao 1st District Rep. Romeo Momo Sr. tendered his resignation on Saturday as a member of the House contingent in the bicameral committee for the 2026 General Appropriations Bill.

Momo’s withdrawal of membership came after recently filed cases before the Ombudsman on Friday, implicating his alleged involvement in receiving PHP 1.4 billion-worth of government contracts through a construction company owned by his family, Surigao La Suerte Corp. (SLSC).

In a public statement, the congressman “categorically [denies]” the allegations and said he firmly believes the complaints “to be false, baseless, and politically motivated”.

He added that he resigned “out of delicadeza” to strengthen the public’s confidence in the Congress.

“This decision was neither easy nor impulsive. It was made after deep reflection and with full awareness of the responsibilities entrusted to me as a legislator,” Momo said.

“Let me be clear: this courtesy resignation is not an admission of guilt. It is an affirmation of the values that must guide every public servant-honor, integrity, accountability, and respect for our institutions,” he added.

Momo serves as the incumbent chair of the House Committee on Public Works and Highways.
