Filipino tourist dies after passing out at Hong Kong Disneyland

MANILA – A 53-year-old Filipino tourist died after losing consciousness while on a ride at Hong Kong Disneyland, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed Saturday.

The DFA did not release other details but local reports said the male tourist collapsed while on the Frozen Ever After attraction around 10 a.m. Friday. He was pronounced dead at 11:30 a.

“The (Philippine) Consulate General (in Hong Kong), through its Assistance-to-Nationals Section, confirmed the incident with the Lantau Police headquarters and contacted the next of kin of the deceased to convey our heartfelt condolences and to assist them with the process of repatriating the deceased’s remains,” the DFA said in a statement.

“The Consulate General continues to coordinate with the local authorities and institutions concerned, while respecting the family’s privacy during this difficult time,” it added.

Hong Kong Disneyland Resort’s initial investigation has shown that the incident was “not related to ride safety.”

The theme park, meanwhile, temporarily suspended its Frozen Ever After ride from Aug. 31 to Sept. 19, citing “operational adjustments.”
