President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has asked all his Cabinet secretaries to submit courtesy resignations as part of a major government reset following the results of the 2025 midterm elections. Malacañang announced a decision on Thursday to improve government performance and better meet people’s needs.
“This is not business as usual,” Marcos said. “It’s time to realign government with the people’s expectations.” He noted that this decision is about performance, speed, and delivering results, not personal feelings.
His message comes just days after he talked about Cabinet performance reviews on his “BBM Podcast.” Officials say this step gives Marcos space to reassess who should stay in their roles and who should be replaced.
According to the Palace, the goal is to make the government more focused, faster, and better at solving real problems. Marcos said those who have done well will be recognized, but the country can no longer afford to be slow or complacent.
“This is about action, not politics,” he added. “The people expect results—and we hear them.”
Analysts say this is a strategic way for Marcos to take control of his administration going into the second half of his term. By asking for resignations rather than firing officials outright, he avoids conflict while opening the door to changes based on merit.
The public is likely to judge this move by its results. As the country faces economic challenges and rising public demands, many hope the new leadership lineup will bring stronger, more effective governance.
The Palace assured citizens that government services would continue without disruption during the transition. This shake-up marks a turning point as the Marcos administration moves from an early-term setup to a more serious, performance-based approach.
