ANKARA – Two climbers have died on Mount Everest this season, adding to the more than 300 fatalities recorded in the Everest region since climbing began over a century ago.

Indian climber Subrata Ghosh, 45, died on Thursday while descending from the summit, according to Bodhraj Bhandari, managing director of Snowy Horizon Treks, as reported by The Himalayan Times.

Ghosh had successfully reached the top with his guide but showed signs of altitude sickness and extreme exhaustion during the descent.

His body is being retrieved and transported to base camp.

Ghosh was a member of the Mountaineering Association of Krishnanagar–Snowy Everest Expedition 2025.

Just a day earlier, Philipp Santiago, a 45-year-old climber from the Philippines, also lost his life on the mountain.

He had reached Camp IV on Wednesday but was reportedly exhausted and died shortly afterward. His body was found at the camp.
