MANILA – The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) on Tuesday said only the first two hours of the higher parking rates at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) are regulated.

Under the new rates, which took effect Tuesday, buses, cars, and motorcycles will be charged PHP100, PHP50, and PHP20, respectively, for the first two hours.

Buses will be charged PHP50; cars, PHP25; and motorcycles, PHP10, for every succeeding hour or a fraction thereof.

From the previous overnight parking fee of PHP300, the rate have ballooned to PHP1,200 for cars, while the fee for motorcycles will be PHP480 and PHP2,400 for buses.

“(The increased rates) are included in the regulated fees as part of the AO (Administrative Order) no.

1 as revised,” MIAA General Manager Eric Ines told the Philippine News Agency.

In a radio interview on Tuesday, MIAA executive assistant Chris Bendijo clarified that only the first two hours of the new rates are regulated.

“The first two hours are regulated fees, which means these were subject to the approval of the MIAA, the MIAA Board, and the Cabinet,” he said.

The rates for the succeeding hours, he said, are non-regulated, and were decided by the concessionaire or the New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC).

Bendijo acknowledged that the increase in overnight parking is steep, compared to the increase in the hourly charges.

He, however, pointed out that this “could be a solution” to other problems at NAIA like the drivers of colorum vehicles.

Bendijo, meanwhile, said the MIAA will relay the public sentiments to the NNIC.

“Maybe we could evaluate, study, and see if (the rates) could be adjusted,” he added.
