July 4 parade shooting leaves 6 dead in US state of Illinois
WASHINGTON – The death toll from a Fourth of July Independence Day parade shooting in the US state of Illinois has risen to six, said police on Monday.
The shooting, which took place in Highland Park City, some 48 kilometers (30 miles) outside of Chicago, also left 24 others injured, said Highland Park Police Commander Chris O’Neill at a press conference.
He said law enforcement agencies are searching for the gunman and described him as a white male, aged 18 to 20.
The police believe the gunman fired a rifle from a roof during the parade.
“The firearm has been recovered from the scene,” said O’Neill.
Illinois Rep. Brad Schneider said he and his team were gathering at the start of the parade when the shooting took place.
“Hearing of loss of life and others injured,” said Schneider on Twitter.
“My condolences to the family and loved ones; my prayers for the injured and for my community; and my commitment to do everything I can to make our children, our towns, our nation safer. Enough is enough!”

My deepest condolences to the bereaved. Another innocent lives were taken again. I don’t know if the gunman did it deliberately or accidentally but one thing I’m certain of he deserves punishment. Those who were killed deserve justice too. The government officials must do their best to catch this gunman, because there’s a high chance that he will do the same thing again, which is killing innocent people. Since he isn’t caught yet, I can’t imagine the fear that the people there feel right now because the same event might occur again anytime soon and their lives might be put in danger. This is just another proof that the world is getting worse and dangerous to the everyone. I’m not that very religious person but if God is reading this, may he guide us,the humans. May he touch the heart of those people who do heinous crime. May he make this world a safe place to everyone 🙏 Again to victims of this killing, may you all rest in peace🕊️
