Mobile kitchen helps alleviate hunger, malnutrition
MANILA – Rise Against Hunger Philippines, a relief organization, has launched its mobile kitchen project to avert malnutrition issues.
The mobile kitchen supports the private sector program “Kain Tayo Pilipinas” and targets to feed at least 500 per deployment.
The jeepney is designed with a modern version of the Filipino mythical bird, Sarimanok, a design conceptualized by architect Deo Alam, with the beak shown bringing food to the hungry.
Rise Against Hunger Philippines executive director Jomar Fleras hopes that the mobile kitchen project will inspire more organizations to continuously assist Filipinos, especially during this time of the Covid-19 crisis.
“We are grateful for the unwavering commitment of our partner organizations who continuously supported us to address the root of the nation’s concern on involuntary hunger including challenges on food production, food distribution, and accessibility,” Fleras said in a statement on Tuesday.
The first mobile kitchen currently operates in Barangay Rosario, Pasig City where it serves lunch to residents.
Mobile kitchens and food banks will also be stationed in Taguig, and Manila.
It will run thrice a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
The project piloted at Pasig Elementary School on September 30, with 100 jeepney drivers and their families as guests.
The project is also part of the Pilipinas Kontra Gutom, a joint movement of the government and groups in support of the Task Force Zero Hunger program.
Each feeding program will be complemented by a malnutrition education drive.
