Why Support Me?

Hello – I’m Annamie Paul. Recently, I was honoured to become the leader of the Green Party. I will be seeking a seat in our Parliament in the next election in Toronto Centre, and I’m asking for your support. 

Why you ask? One reason – and probably an obvious one – is a vote for greater environmental responsibility. The Green Party advocates for government action to sustain our planet for generations. That’s our roots and we will always be committed to that. And what’s more, the Green Party also encourages women’s empowerment and the bold presence of women of colour in the Canadian mainstream. 

But I have many other reasons. Reasons that matter to you, in your everyday lives. 

I am a woman and a child of immigrants – raised by a mother and grandmother who pushed me to be bold and daring, and to face any adversity head on. My mother overcame many foreign credentials barriers to become a teacher, and they gave me the strength to become a successful lawyer and social entrepreneur, always pushing to make our community a better place for all. I will work to give the Filipino community and other immigrant communities a stronger voice in Parliament – and to push for real change that will enable us to do what so many of us aspire to do – provide our families with a good life and endless opportunities. 

Our communities like St. James Town and other parts of downtown have big challenges to overcome. There is not enough affordable housing. Many jobs have not returned. The conditions in many elder care homes are shocking. More accessible skills development opportunities are required for different trades for immigrants (Doctor, Engineering, Educator, etc.). We need more affordable child care facilities and cheaper post-secondary education. A strong plan to tackle climate change. And these are just a few of the issues I hold dear. I am not afraid to tackle these and other tough issues. 

I have demonstrated that I am a strong community leader. It’s time to take this leadership to Ottawa – and to dare to demand the concrete action steps required for change and to build a better society for all cultures. 

If nothing else, a vote for me is a vote for a positive change, and a vote to support for the people who need change the most – YOU.
