Pinoy films including ‘I’m Drunk, I Love You,’ ‘Dito at Doon’ to stream on Netflix
More Filipino films will be available on Netflix this August and September.
TBA Studios announced that five of their films — Bliss, Sunday Beauty Queen, Dito at Doon, I’m Drunk, I Love You, and Smaller and Smaller Circles — will be coming to the streaming giant.
The 2017 psychological thriller film, Bliss, and the 2016 documentary, Sunday Beauty Queen, are set to premiere on Netflix on August 15.
Directed by Jerrold Tarog, Bliss tells the story of actress Jane Ciego, played by Iza Calzado, who got into an accident on the set of her film. She was then placed in a house under the care of her husband and a strange nurse.
Iza won the Yakushi Pearl Award at the 2017 Osaka Asian Film Festival for her performance in the movie.
On the other hand, the award-winning documentary, directed by Baby Ruth Villarama, follows the stories of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Hong Kong who join in a beauty pageant. Among the awards that Sunday Beauty Queen bagged is the Best Documentary award at the 2017 Gawad Urian Awards.
Dito at Doon will stream on September 2, which will be followed by I’m Drunk, I Love You on September 15, and Smaller and Smaller Circles on September 21.
Dito at Doon, directed by JP Habac, is set during the community quarantine and revolves around Len, played by Janine Gutierrez, and Cabs, played by JC Santos, who met online through their mutual friend.
Janine’s performance in the film earned her the Rising Star Award at the New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF) this year.
Reacting to this, Janine tweeted, “So honored!!!! thank you @NYAFF!! second year to have a film part of your festival and I was so sad that for the second time, we’re still unable to attend – but now I’m just filled with gratitude.”
Also directed by JP, I’m Drunk, I Love You is about Carson, who has been secretly in love with her best friend, Dio. Carson and Dio were portrayed by Maja Salvador and Paulo Avelino, respectively.
Meanwhile, Smaller and Smaller Circles, helmed by Raya Martin, is about two Jesuit priests who try to solve the mystery behind the murders of young boys in Payatas. Nonie Buencamino and Sid Lucero, among others, starred in the film, based on the novel of the same name by F.H. Batacan.
