50 Pinoy caregivers to leave for Israel July 27
MANILA – An initial batch of 50 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are set to be deployed to Israel next week, the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) reported on Thursday.
“On July 27, the first batch, consisting of some 50 caregivers, is flying to Israel,” POEA chief Bernard Olalia said in a Laging Handa briefing.
Olalia said they have started processing documents of OFWs after the suspension on the deployment of Filipino workers to the host country has been lifted.
“We are currently processing 377 caregivers for deployment,” he added.
In 2018, the Philippines and Israel signed a bilateral labor agreement.
The Philippines lifted the OFW deployment suspension to Israel on July 14.
In early May, Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas engaged in a fierce battle marked by deadly bombings, prompting the DOLE to suspend the deployment of Filipino workers to the Jewish state.
Last May 21, both parties agreed to a ceasefire brokered by Egypt which ended an almost two-week conflict that killed at least 231 Palestinians and 12 Israelis.
