Ben&Ben and Day6’s Young K collaborate in new version of ‘Leaves’
Young K of South Korean band Day6 joined Ben&Ben in the new version of the latter’s hit song “Leaves.”
On their schedule for this month that they earlier released, the Filipino folk-pop band gave a clue on what would happen on the 28th of May, showing emojis of leaves and the flag of South Korea.
On Wednesday, Ben&Ben finally revealed what they prepared for the last Friday of the month, announcing that they “reimagined ‘Leaves’ this year with a surprise collaboration from an artist we really love, Young K from the band Day6.”
“In these times, the message that ‘all will be alright in time’ is more relevant than ever, all over the world,” they said in a tweet.
The reimagined version of “Leaves” featuring Young K was released on Friday, along with a music video featuring the nine-piece band and the South Korean artist.
For Ben&Ben’s vocalist Miguel Benjamin Guico, singing “Leaves,” with Young K this time, “hits different now with everything that’s been happening with the world.” But despite that, he said, “We remain hopeful that all will be alright in time.”
Ben&Ben and Young K also had an interaction via Instagram Live, where Young K described “Leaves” as an “amazing song,” while Ben&Ben praised Young K’s vocals, which, Miguel said, “really added to the story of the song.”
Ben&Ben was trending again on South Korean music streaming platform Melon, sitting at the top spot of the trending list.
“Grateful! This is all because of you,” the band said in a Facebook post. “Leaves” and “Young K” also entered the list, taking the second and third spot, respectively.
Ben&Ben became a trending topic in South Korea last year. The band learned that some Korean artists, including Young K, listened to “Leaves.”
In a 2020 video, Young K was heard saying, “Ben&Ben, Leaves, it was amazing. Wow, I was surprised.” Ben&Ben then thanked Young K for listening to their song in a tweet last July.
On the first episode of their “BBTV” series on YouTube launched in August 2020, the Filipino band covered some K-pop songs and one of those was Day6’s “You Were Beautiful.”
