50K Sputnik V shots allocated for areas with high Covid-19 cases
MANILA – Populated areas with high number of coronavirus cases will likely get the next delivery of Sputnik V vaccines, the Department of Health (DOH) said Saturday.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire confirmed that 50,000 doses of the Russian-made vaccine against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) will arrive on Sunday (May 30).
“According to the National Vaccine Cluster, ibibigay po ito uli sa mga lugar na nakikitaan natin ng pagtaas (we will be giving these to areas with a high number of cases), high burden of disease, and highly populous. Kakaunti lang kasi itong paparating na Sputnik V so siguro mga dalawa o tatlong lugar muna ang mabibigyan nitong mga bakunang ito (The arriving Sputnik V are few so only two or three areas might get these),” Vergeire said in a Laging Handa briefing.
The upcoming batch will bring to 80,000 the total Sputnik V doses the Philippines will receive from Russia.
Vergeire said the initial 30,000 shots were administered to the residents of Manila, Makati, Taguig, Parañaque, and Muntinlupa — five Metro Manila cities that have the capacity to store the Russian jabs.
As of this posting, no recipient has reported any severe or serious adverse reaction upon receiving the shot.
“Ito pong mga adverse events na tinatawag, wala po tayong naitala na severe or serious at mga namatay dito sa Sputnik V na bakuna (From the adverse events that we call, none were severe or serious. No deaths were also reported from the vaccine),” Vergeire said.
