Gov’t to present nat’l employment recovery plan on Labor Day
MANILA – The government will highlight its employment recovery plan to pick up from the impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in observance of Labor Day on Saturday.
This, as an executive order establishing the National Employment Recovery Strategy (NERS) 2021-2022 is expected to be signed by President Rodrigo Duterte during the event.
According to a briefer from the labor department’s Bureau of Local Employment, the strategy aims to create a policy environment that encourages the generation and improved access of employment, livelihood, and training opportunities; improve employability and productivity of workers.
It also aims to take advantage of the opportunities in the labor market under the new normal and provide support to existing and emerging businesses to preserve and create employment.
Several items have been identified to be included in the employment agenda as adopted by the NERS Task Force — the approval of the proposed wage subsidy for private sector workers, the conduct of a Job Summit, support the passage of priority legislation, and policies that strengthen economic and employment recovery.
Also to promote retooling and upskilling of workers, full implementation of youth employability programs, extend assistance to establishments through loans, deferment of applicable fees, upgrading of processes, etc., provide social protection to vulnerable groups, monitor and support the continuous implementation of programs with high impact on employment
On the other hand, the Job Summit will be the venue for high-level consultation and discussion with employer groups, the labor sector, government representatives, and other key stakeholders to address the employment problems in the country brought about by the pandemic.
Among the programs during the summit includes presentation of the Labor Sector Agenda, presentation of the Business Sector Agenda, the National Government’s Recovery Plan (ReCharge.PH), the National Employment Recovery Strategy 2021-2022 Employment Recovery Action Agenda, Legislative’s Response to the Employment and Economic Agenda, the signing of the Executive Order on NERS.
