Train passengers continue to rise in December: DOTr

MANILA – More passengers are taking trains in Metro Manila as the Department of Transportation (DOTr) noted an increase in the daily average number of passengers in all four rail services in December compared to the previous months.

Data released Tuesday by the DOTr show that all four Metro Manila trains collectively had a daily average ridership of 284,880 from December 1 to 13, compared to 220,255 from November 1 to 30, and 148,097 from June 1 to September 30.

For December 1 to 13, the rail lines have a ridership of 3,703,434.

Out of this total, the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) had the highest ridership with 1,679,972, followed by the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) with 1,439,998, the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) with 378,226, and the Philippine National Railways with 205,238.

For this period, the LRT-1 had 24 train sets running during peak hours and 18 train sets during off-peak hours, followed by the MRT-3 with 22 train sets during peak hours and 20 trains on average during off-peak hours, the PNR with 10 train sets on average, and the LRT-2 with five train sets running on average.

Overall, from June 1 to December 13, total ridership of the rail lines is at 34,390,712.

The data from the DOTr showed a dramatic increase in the number of train passengers since rail services resumed operation on June 1 under pandemic conditions.

From June 1 to September 30, the rail lines have a total ridership of 17,919,775.

This results in daily average ridership of 148,097 for all rail services from June 1 to September 30, without taking into consideration the days when train operations were suspended for various reasons.

For November 1 to 30, the rail lines have a ridership of 6,601,654.

This total results in daily average ridership of 220,255 from November 1 to 30, an increase of 72,158 compared to the daily average ridership from June 1 to September 30.
