MANILA – The Philippine Navy’s (PN) Civil-Military Operations Unit (CMOU) – Southern Luzon (SL) and its various stakeholders on Friday distributed 760 packs of relief goods to residents of Bula town, Camarines Sur who were severely affected by the series of typhoons that battered the province late October and early this month.

Dubbed “Operation Tabang Bicol”, the CMOU-SL partnered with civic groups Heart for Philippines – United Kingdom, Society of Junior Fellows Alumni Association, Inc. (SJFAAI), Dios Mabalos Po Foundation, Inc. and concerned individuals, Jojo Furiscal and retired Navy Lt. Commander Siony Pontillas, to provide aid to heavily affected residents of barangays Ombao, San Roque, and Palsong.

Lt. Orlan Corosco, CMOU-SL commander, said they immediately recognized the need for relief assistance during their inspection of the affected barangays.

Corosco and his team were joined in their inspection by Bula municipal disaster risk reduction and management office (MDRRMO) chief Isagani Rana and representatives of SJFAAI and Heart for Philippines – UK.

On November 20, both the CMOU-SL and its partners successfully delivered 760 packs of relief goods containing rice, canned goods, noodles, coffee, sugar, creamer, and toiletries, such as bath soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush, and face towel to the beneficiaries.

Some 135 containers of mineral water were provided to the victims as well.

The relief distribution was participated in by personnel assigned and under the control of Naval Forces Southern Luzon, reservists of the 312th Naval Squadron Reserve (NSR), barangay officials, Bula MDRRMO personnel, and representatives of the civic organizations.

Meanwhile, some 135 households in Salvacion, Bato, Camarines Sur were also given relief packs on November 19.

These families were likewise severely affected and evacuated to higher grounds because of the rising water from Bato Lake.

Since the onslaught of the disaster in Bicol, the CMOU-SL has distributed relief goods to various affected families in Ragay and Naga in Camarines Sur, and Malinao and Tiwi in Albay.

Similar activities are lined up in Camalig, Albay, and the Aeta community in Buhi, Camarines Sur.
