Canada to discuss coordinated global response to COVID-19 at G7, G20, and annual meetings of the IMF and the World Bank

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected nearly all aspects of life and economies around the world. Canada is committed to working with its partners to stop COVID-19 and to address its devastating health, social, and economic impacts on people across the world.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, will attend several multilateral virtual meetings over the next week, beginning with Monday’s Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action. The Deputy Prime Minister will also attend virtual meetings of the G7 and G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors on October 13 and October 14.

On October 15, the Deputy Prime Minister will participate in the virtual 2020 Annual Meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) International Monetary and Financial Committee. The Minister of International Development, the Honourable Karina Gould, will participate in the IMF-World Bank Development Committee meeting on October 16.

At these meetings, ministers will discuss the actions the IMF and World Bank have taken to address the needs of member countries in response to the COVID-19 crisis as well as next steps to continue to support people.
