MANILA – The Pasig City government on Saturday paid tribute to the local government units (LGUs) for their continuous response to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic, in time of the observance of the Local Government Day.

“The city government of Pasig pays tribute to all local government units in the country who have been at the forefront in the fights against Covid-19 in their respective localities,” it said in a social media post.

Pasig also lauded the Metro Manila LGUs for the untiring services they are providing to their constituents amid the prevailing health crisis.

Bilang sangay ng gobyerno na pinakamalapit sa mga tao, inaasahan ang local government units na maging front liners o pangunahing responders sa mga kalamidad, local emergencies, at ngayon, pandemya (As the branch of government closest to the people, local government units are expected to be the front-liners or primary responders in disasters, local emergencies, and now, pandemic),” the city government said.

Distribution of learning devices

On the other hand, the city government continues to distribute 150,000 computer tablets to public school students in Pasig amid the shift to blended and distance learning.

In a Facebook post, Mayor Vico Sotto urged the parents and guardians of the computer tablet recipients to coordinate with the school’s in-charge for the distribution of the learning materials to know the further details of the dissemination process.

“Each tablet our public school students receive comes preloaded with one-quarter of modules for all subjects,” he said.

To ensure the delivery process of the learning devices would be safe and organized, Sotto said the teachers are wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) sets during the distribution. Limited parents are only allowed to transact.

Sotto said the city government has anticipated the distribution of the learning devices would take quite long, so it prepared printed modules that the students could use for their first month of schooling while waiting to get their computer tablets.

“The City of Pasig invested 14.2-Million for video lesson production. This translates to roughly 100 pesos per minute of video that thousands of students will benefit from,” he said.

Sotto earlier said Pasig teachers have undergone training for digital learning to prepare themselves in the opening of classes.
